IACTS CERTIFYING EXAMINATION FOR CARDIOTHORACIC - SURGICAL PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS

 

Introduction:

The Indian Association of Cardiothoracic surgeons (IACTS) proposes to conduct a certification exam for Physician assistants working in Cardiac surgery on 13/08/2017. This would enable standardization of Physician assistants across the country working in the field of cardiac surgery.

 

The certification will be awarded to successful candidates at the Annual meeting of IACTS on completion of the requirements stipulated below.

 

Details of the certification process are as follows:

1. Eligibility:

a. Three / four year bachelor degree in physician Assistant awarded by recognized University.

b. Two year post qualification work experience in dedicated cardiac surgery unit.

c. Letter of recommendation from Head of the department cardiac surgery.

 

2. Written examination:

Multiple choice 120 questions

Duration: 90 minutes

Examination Fee: Rs.1,000/-

 

3. Viva Voce

Candidates passing the written exam ( 50 % ) will be called for a viva the same afternoon .

Based on the performance PA’s selected will be intimated about their selection for being certified PA’s of the IACTS.

The exam will cover all the aspects of patient care in cardiac surgery.

Fill the necessary details and then enclose the DD for Rs.1,000/- in favour of “Secretary IACTS Contingency Fund” payable at Chennai

Last day for submission of Application Form is 31st July 2017

Cardiopulmonary bypass Technique and pathophysiology / Myocardial protection

Drugs used in Cardiac surgery: Inotropes / vasodilators/ Antiplatelets/ Anticoagulants/ Hemostatic agents/ Anti hypertensives / Statins / Diuretics etc..

ICU Care: Arterial Blood gases / Hemodynamic monitoring / Cardiac tamponade / Post surgical bleeding / Cardiac arrhythmias / IABP/ ECMO / CPR / Quality indictors

Post ICU Care: Wound infection / PT/INR / Predischarge evaluation/ Prescriptions

Congenital Heart Surgery: Evaluation and management

Valvular Heart surgery: Evaluation and management / Minimal access

Coronary Artery Surgery: Evaluation and management / Minimal access

Aortic Surgery: Evaluation and management

Heart Failure: Non transplant options, VAD and Transplant
